Makes An Organization Successful?
(Continued from page 18)
To carry out this attitude you must "get into the act": be first to have a chest x-ray, be first to donate blood, be first to give to the Crusade of Mercy, be first to participate in Community affairs, and use gimmicks like hash, skelton, pie, silver dollars, valentines, etc.
Characteristics of a growth organization: in touch with world trends, look beyond immediate area, plan for the future, encourages personal initiative, willingness to experiment, and an exiting organization.
"See everything, overlook a great deal, correct a little" - POPE JOHN
I haven't time to cover in detail other traits of successful administrators, but I will mention them briefly.
An administrator is resourceful, a doer, adaptable, objective, a realist, develops men, is an optimist, is imaginative, is an energizer, establishes goals, is emotionally mature, is an artist at timing, is a leader (he directs), assumes responsibility, is governed by principles, is able to secure cooperation, and has determination to succeed. There is no substitute for personality.
A word of caution: Please don't try more than one or two of these thoughts at the start. If you do, your staff and employees will wonder what is happening to you. If you consistently follow even a few of these ideas, your success factor will be second to none. You will be thrilled by having an organization that is throbbing with life.
I will close by quoting George Bernard Shaw: "People are always blaming circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, they make them."
