AMC Survey
(Continued from page 14)
The Gerson study also produced these findings: Home buyers of the nation, with the exception of in the Pacific Northwest and the New England generally prefer brick.
Builders, however, consider brick to be the most sive wall material. More than half the builders who expressed this view placed the difference between brick and competing materials at $300 to $600 a home.
Design drawings are considered by builders as "helpfull" in producing more attractive brick homes for while information on wall types and construction m was regarded as "fairly helpful" or "not helpful" by a total of nearly 85 percent of the builders.
The survey indicated that, as single-family units to give way to attached and high-rise housing, brick and clap products will face in housing the same comp they now find in the commercial market-glass, and concrete. Decision-makers in the materials field increasingly embrace architects, investors, developers, and city officials as well as the builders themselves.
The builders' belief that brick is expensive is generally erroneous, but can only be remedied on the local level by re-education of the builder, by investigation of true costs both on an initial and an ultimate cost basis.
An elderly man was attempting to cross an intersection when, suddenly, a large St. Bernard ran past him and bowled him over. The next instant a small foreign car skidded around the corner inflicting more serious bruises. A bystander helped the man to his feet and asked if the dog had hurt him much.
"Well, not exactly," was the reply, "but that can tied to his tail, sure packed a wallop."
