Lawson's Dairy Chain Selects Masonry

Lawson's Dairy Foods has a chain of identical stores throughout Ohio and surrounding states, all designed similarly to the store, pictured, at Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The architect, Tuchman & Canute, chose loadbearing masonry walls with precast, prestressed double tee roof. There are sixteen of the double tees 48-feet long and 4-feet wide. In the front there is a 5 foot 6 inch cantilever while in the back it extends 6-feet. One large precast beam, 10-in. wide, 221½-in. deep, and 24-ft. 6-in. long spans the entrance area. David R. Simpson was the Engineer while Concrete Masonry Corp. supplied the precast units.

New Research Program

A new and comprehensive research program is being initiated to aid masonry companies in supplying products to the construction industry in the next decade. The study will determine the impact of technological change on products to meet the requirements of this major market. Under the joint sponsorship of a group of supplier firms, Technomic Research Associates, Inc., will conduct the first non-competitive, industry-wide study with a product orientation. Results will guide suppliers in marketing to the dynamic but cost-conscious construction field.
