Greater Chicago: Fox Valley Mason Contractors Association of Illinois; Mason Contractors Association of Lake County, III.; Masonry Promotion Fund of Lake County: Masonry Industry Fund of Northwest Indiana, and the Mason Contractors Association of Northwest Indiana. The individuals responsible for conducting the program were Frank Janko of D. H. Johnson Co. (MCAA), Villa Park, III., and Robert and Richard Nelson of H. H. Holmes Testing Laboratory. Wheeling. III.
Ray Prossen of MCAA's Milwaukee Chapter presented a slide show titled, How to Meet and Beat the Competition. The title refers to the direct competition to mason contractors from the metal building industry.
Prossen, who is president of R. J. Prossen, Inc. and Ray Prossen Masonry in Brookfield. Wis.. pioneered the development and design of an all-concrete block building known as "Rigid Frame." The building utilizes precast columns and beams as well as the Span-Crete precast roof system.
The basic module of 104 × 104 feet can be adapted to a variety of designs, such as for office and warehouse facilities, and expanded as needed with minimal construction problems. According to Prossen, the Rigid Frame structures can be erected swiftly and turned over to the owner on a completely packaged, "turn-key" basis. The recently developed Brookfield Industrial Park in the Milwaukee area, for example, utilizes the Rigid Frame concept throughout; there are no metal buildings.
Prossen added that his Rigid Frame building has caught on rapidly in Wisconsin and he foresees unlimited continued on page 24
