Buildings and Energy: New IMI Ad Campaign

The International Masonry Institute has launched a new advertising campaign designed to reach the high-level decision makers of business and industry with a concise, persuasive statement of the masonry industry's position on energy efficiency in building design.

The advertisement appearing on page 3 of this issue of Masonry is the cornerstone of that effort. Over a nine-week period, it will appear in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes magazine, and the Toronto Financial Post-magazines chosen to deliver the most influential audience possible.

IMI is backing up the ad with a new brochure on energy conservation, which will be sent to individuals responding to the ad.

Study Shows Masonry Saves On Energy

A University of Pittsburgh study has confirmed that masonry construction saves energy because of its mass or density.

The study, "Effects of Thermal Mass on Heating and Cooling Loads in Residences," by Drs. W. Rudoy and R. S. Dougall, engineering professors at the University of Pittsburgh, was presented at a symposium sponsored by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

It supported many previous research findings about brick's superiority as an insulating material.
