What Makes An Organization Successful?

It is a constant challenge. It gives me the opportunity to develop my mind. It pays according to ability. It gives me status. It is fun. It allows me to develop a philosophy of life. Realizing the above and acting the part, we condition organizations to want to be successful like Pavlov conditioned his dog.

After considering the above objectively, if you are not enthusiastic about your work or your company, be fair to it! Your organization will never be good unless your heart determines your acts. Talk about your work and be proud of it.

Administrators and business-men are criticized when they talk "shop" - yet artists, writers, painters, and others called creative people, have only one interest and talk about it constantly. Business-men are more creative than so called creative people, because we are working and shaping lives of human beings not inanimate objects. We must use imagination and think creatively every minute of the day and we must react immediately and not just when we are in the mood. We do not have music scores or patterns to follow. We must improve and be creative every minute. Leonard Bernstein follows the score of the composer yet his music sounds different.

Develop the art of plain talk to put over your ideas. If you are not getting enough applicants; if your organization lacks enthusiasm; it is because of your attitude, power, conversation, clothes, gait, car, your office, etc., or your lack of enthusiasm for your work and organization. Your attitude shows in many ways.

You must set the pace and attitude. Listen to what Ethel Merman has to say: "Stand tall or someone's apt to dump over you. Give it all you've got. The only time to put your feet on a desk is when you go to the Chiropodist. Be yourself. It's the one thing you can do better than anyone else."

Don't be scared to fight for your rights - George Washington wasn't and even the British like him now. Go ahead on your own. The guy who marries the boss's daughter just winds up with two bosses. Don't "stay on too long". Don't talk too much. Remember, the star is the one who sang one song too few, not one too many.

How to make a million dollars: Work hard, loaf hard. You must at all times recognize that our responsibility is to motivate and that we motivate more by our attitude than by what we say.

There is no shortage of pilots, stewardess', because these men and women look alive, act as though their jobs are glamorous. What is the breakdown on a stewardess' job? The facts are their jobs are more demanding; more routine; have more broken shifts and irregular hours than most jobs.

There is a shortage of business leaders, teachers or supervisors, it is because they indicate that their work has no challenge, is of no purpose, etc. People gravitate to jobs that fill their inner needs.

Recently, two College Presidents resigned because they couldn't stand the pressure of meeting people. Wasn't that too bad! In their education courses, didn't they learn?
