What Makes An Organization Successful?

that you teach by meeting people. It is too bad that so many people miss the purpose of their calling.

A study of scientists showed the following: 78% of Creative Scientists felt their jobs gave them the opportunities they needed. 38% of the less creative scientists felt the same way.

This also indicates that those who claim that they lack status, high rates of pay, opportunity, etc., are using these as excuses.

Some people today feel that they cannot get ahead because of laws, rules, regulations, directives, new machines, etc. Why spend time and worry on these condtions, why not accept them the same as we accept the rules of any gave and devote our time to winning? We are living today and to succeed we must assume that conditions are normal and make the most of them.

Jesus walking on water.

I want to read a few remarks that are worth thinking about.

I Our earth is degenerate in these days. Bribery and corruption are common. Children no longer obey their parents. Every man wants to write a book.. the end of the world is evidently approaching.

II It is a gloomy moment in history. Not for many many years has there been so much apprehension never has the future seemed so incalculable... in France, the political caldron seethes Russia hangs like a cloud on the horizon all the resources of the British Empire are sorely tired. Of our own troubles in the United States no man can see the end.

III We live in an unhappy age. The capitalist is insecure in his possessions. Labor is discontented with his position. Professional life involves some disappointments ... no century, perhaps, is more characterized by unhappiness than this period.

These quotes were from: I Stone slab found in Assyria, 2800 B. C. II Harper's Weekly October 10, 1857 III New Englander Magazine, January 1879.

Your future will be determined by your ability to influence others under difficult conditions. There would be no opportunities if conditions were ideal. Let's stop glorifying the past and being fearful of the future. The more highly specialized and mechanized we become, the greater is the opportunity for the man who has learned, "that there is no substitute for a positive personality".

I am not talking about the other fellow. I'm about YOU your future and the future of your organization is in your own hands and will be of your n When your life ends, will you have accomplishec you were willing to pay for.

For those who blame conditions and others, I ha sympathy. No one made the great men Moses, Steinmetz, Schweitzer, Darwin, Spencer, Lindy, E etc., etc.

They knew what they wanted and they got it. These men are thankful for the opportunity to think cres to do as they want and they are never worried status; having a private office, etc. We need mor like them in every field, who provide their own er ment for creative ideas. We need men and wome will worry about their work. Facts show that those worry are happier than those who don't worry.

Today you hear people in top places bemoani fact that there is no "National Purpose". There no national purpose when leaders of organizations levels have no personal or organization "purpose". It is our responsibility to supply a "purpose" for those a us. Have you written a "purpose" for yourself a ganization? If you have, fine. If you haven't the can your organization feel that it is needed and where it is going. Manage by objectives and goals.

Do the things you want to do. Net for any reason. Lindbergh flew because he wanted to. Not status, money or security. Paul Williams, mountain ing. Even on a routine job you can learn to like learning all about it; how important and essential it i interpreter climbs mountains just because he likes to respect others have for you, your work, and organi is dependent upon the respect you show. Those who plain about a rat-race, are only classifying themselh

In 1921, (Thorndyke) made a study of children high I.Q.'s. Recently all of this group was re-stud determine what happened to them as adults. It was that the successful ones had three traits in common:

-Perseverance
-Self-confidence
-Direction of mental and physical energies to a definite goal.

This again emphasizes what I have been saying. You must know what you want, have the self-confiden know that you can get it and the determination to g This attitude will permeate the organization and cre esprit de corps.
