Don't be confused! Air-entrainment in good lime is not necessary! Air-entrainment is used in some mortars because they lack the natural plasticity and water retentivity that is needed and which is provided by the use of Quick-Mix Pressure Hydrated Lime. Quick-Mix provides high plasticity without soaking the lime, and good water retentivity, and, when used in conjunction with Portland cement, your mortar will have all of the best properties available. The hazard in using an air-entraining lime is when such a lime is combined with air-entraining cement and the resulting excessive air reduces bond, increases porosity, and leakage of a masonry wall.
