New PCA Pamphlet
Parking area planning is an essential part of total building site development in our automobile-oriented society, according to a new pamphlet from the Portland Cement Association.
Published as an aid to developers, architects, and engineers, Concrete Parking Areas present the advantages of concrete-paved parking lots and service drives for commercial, industrial, public, and multifamily residential structures.
The booklet also contains helpful design criteria for thickness, concrete mix, aggregate, air entrainment, slope, and joint design.
Cost comparisons of various pavement types should be based on "total cost," advises the PCA booklet. This is the sum of the initial cost plus maintenance costs plus anticipated replacement costs over a common service life.
Single copies of Concrete Parking Areas are available in the U.S. and Canada from any Portland Cement Association regional office or from the Portland Cement Association, Dept. PI-12-1, Old Orchard Road., Skokie, III. 60076.
