Plan Masonry Conference
Architectural and structural engineering design of load-bearing and reinforced brick structures will be the main topics of discussion at the 2nd International Brick Masonry Conference scheduled for Keele University, Staffordshire, England, April 12-18, 1970.

Sponsors of the event are the British Ceramic Research Association and the Brick Development Association of Great Britain. The first such meeting was held in Austin, Texas, in December, 1967.

The conference will be of particular interest to architects and structural engineers concerned with the design of brick masonry buildings, both low-rise and multi-story.

BLI Developments

Bliss & Laughlin Industries, Oak Brook, III., announced it has acquired two parcels of land in southern California as part of its new land development program. The properties were acquired through the purchase of A.S.D. Corporation, Pasadena, a land acquisition and development company. One tract called Wildwood, consists of nearly 1,100 acres in Yucaipa in San Bernadino county. The other area consists of 600 acres in the Carmel Valley in the northern portion of the city of San Diego about one mile from the Pacific Ocean.

"Construction and improvements will start immediately in the Yucaipa area," said BLI president Frederic J. Robbins. "We are planning a total, self-contained small community around a lake and a golf course that will afford pleasant living away from the smog of Los Angeles county. This will include single-family dwellings, apartments and sites for mobile homes."
