Kaufman Agency Names Two Vice Presidents

Henry J. Kaufman & Associates Inc., Washington D.C.'s largest advertising-public relations organization, has appointed two new vice presidents. Ray Lackey has been named vice president-public relations and Joseph F. Schramm, vice president-media and research.

Agency president Alfred H. Edelson said the appointments reflect both the growth of the agency and the increasing importance of media-research and public relations in the organization's operations.

Schramm, who joined Kaufman Associates in 1963, had been media and research director for the past five years. Lackey joined Kaufman in 1964 and had been public relations division manager for the past two years.

Henry J. Kaufman & Associates is the agency representing the International Masonry Institute, among other prominent accounts.

Colorado Elects Bailey

President elect of the Colorado Mason Contractors Association is Jack Bailey. Other officers elected were Jim Arnott, Vice President, and Don Fair, Secretary-Treasurer. Elected to the Board of Trustees for a three year term were Don Carpenter and Norm Eatherton.

Long-time labor union executive William R. Connors officially retired from office as Secretary of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers International Union effective October 15, 1971, leaving legion numbers of friends in the fields of construction and among union organizations.

Bill launched his illustrious career back in 1923 when he began his apprenticeship with Madison (Wis.) Local 13, becoming a journeyman member of that local in July, 1927. Local 13's pride in Bill Conners is shared by both the Madison and state labor organizations which he served in almost every capacity, local and statewide.

He acted as Secretary-Treasurer of the Wisconsin State Conference of Bricklayers from 1940 until his move to Washington, D.C. in 1955, and during that time also was a Vice President of the former Wisconsin State Federation of Labor (AFL) from 1944 to 1955. In 1947 he became a full-time Special Deputy for the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska.

In 1952 he was elected Fifth Vice President of the International Union. Another rung of the ladder came in 1955 when Bill became First Vice President of the International, with headquarters in Washington. He held that post until his appointment to International Secretary in 1966 by BM & PIU President Thomas F. Murphy.

Bill says he is enjoying excellent health, and that he and his wife Florence are returning to his native city of Madison where "it is my hope to enjoy my remaining years with my wife in rest and contentment." He adds, however, that he has no intention of "rusting away" in the rural beauties of Wisconsin, in which the Connors have deep roots. Among his many cultural and civic interests is Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, which Bill serves as a member of its Board of Regents.

MCAA joins with the officers and members of BM & PIU in wishing the Connors a long and happy retirement.
