Model of three 50-story loadbearing concrete masonry buildings. Project was undertaken at IIT under the direction of Dr. Fazlur R. Khan, partner Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, architects & engineers, Chicago, Prof. John Heinrich of IIT and three graduate students in architecture. Dr. Khan is the designer of three of the world's tallest buildings.

NCMA is probing new frontiers to keep you and the Concrete Masonry Industry busy for the next 25 years!

50 story load bearing concrete masonry towers! Within the next 25 years, predictions are that over 60 percent of the U.S. population will be centered in 50 urban areas of 1 million or more people. That can mean only one thing-buildings will be built higher.

That's why NCMA commissioned Dr. Khan and the Illinois Institute of Technology to develop the tallest possible all-concrete masonry load bearing buildings without developing new technology.

Three 50 story towers have been designed-a hotel and convention center, an apartment with garages in lower floors, and an office building with open interior spaces. Engineering tests are now being conducted on stresses, but all can be built competitively priced against non-masonry structures.

Each building will use up to 10 million concrete masonry units-to keep you and the concrete masonry industry busy.

The concrete block industry is working for you.
