Laborers Establish National Health and Safety Fund

The General Executive Board of the Laborers International Union of North America have established the Laborers National Health and Safety Fund. A board of Trustees has been named, with LIUNA General President Angelo Fosco and George A. Miller, MCAA Executive Vice President selected as Co-Chairmen for this jointly trusteed Fund. Dr. Knut Ringen has been named Technical Advisor/Coordinator for the Fund, and James Norwood, Director, Heavy and Highway Division, is Acting Administrator of the Fund.

The Laborers' National Health and Safety Fund will provide services to the Union, contractors, and health and welfare Funds by coordinating programs; offer technical assistance, quality control, and conduct program effectiveness research. Through activities for worksite health protection, preventive medicine and data management and analysis, the program will greatly improve the health of Laborers and their families. It will also reduce health care costs.
