A new course is added this year, with Business Resource Services of Seattle, Washington producing a two-day seminar, entitled "Managing and Financing Independent Business: Practical Tools for Control, Survival and Success," and a seminar on the new ACI/ASCE Masonry Code 530.

payments from wages of fathers who refuse to accept support obligations voluntarily. It would offer child care for the first nine months of parents' employment and Medicaid benefits for families losing eligibility by higher earnings.
The bill requires work training for 22% of welfare recipients; the White House wants 70%. The House bill has no requirement.
A MEASURE MANDATING PARENTAL LEAVE FOR EMPLOYEES WON'T PASS in 1988, despite a flurry of activity on the issue in both houses of the Congress. In the Senate, a new, scaled-back, compromise measure has been introduced, though it does little to satisfy business opposition to required benefits. It would guarantee up to 10 weeks of unpaid parental leave, plus 13 weeks of unpaid medical leave for workers who have been employed at least a year.
A similar measure was approved by a key House committee, but has not been taken to the floor because it lacks the votes.
COMPANIES' LIABILITY FOR PRODUCT INJURY MAY BE LIMITED by Congress. Legislation isn't likely to emerge in 1988, but betters prospects for later. The bill has been voted by a House committee with strong bipartisan support. It would create strict new standards for lawsuits against manufacturers... requiring proof that a product's condition is both defective and dangerous. It would set standards for the awarding of punitive damages to plaintiffs, insisting that "clear and convincing evidence" be provided on such damages.
