COVER

THE NAVY YARD, Boston, Massachusetts, is attractive, affordable housing built on the site of an old navy yard at the edge of Boston Harbor. Brick detailing creates a different and pleasing new look to rowhouses. A saw toothed brick water table on the tower, along with a checkerboard band positioned through the second story, prevents the structure from becoming monotonous or sterile. The use of colored brick plays a role in downplaying the massing and accents the arches of doorways and windows. Photo courtesy of Brick Institute of America.
