A Tip of the Hat

NCE AGAIN, according to the Engineering News Record (ENR) annual report of the nation's top specialty contractors, shows that an overwhelming majority - 15 out of 20, or 75 percent, of the leading masonry contractors, in terms of annual dollar volume -- are members of the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA).

The report, which appeared in the October 2, 1995 issue of ENR, noted that masonry contractors are enjoying a bull market. "The surge in prison building, along with other institutional building, has bolstered the market", says Mike Adelizzi, MCAA executive director. "Institutional buildings are part of our traditional market, so when they take off, we take off."

MCAA members and their revenues for 1994 were: Dee Brown, Dallas, $41.6-million; Pyramid Masonry, Decatur, Georgia, $31.3-million; Seedorf Masonry, Strawberry Point, Iowa, $26.6-million; Thorleif Larsen & Son, Itasca, Illinois, $23.7-million; Leonard Masonry, St. Louis, Missouri, $19.4-million; Pompano Masonry, Pompano Beach, Florida, $16.8-million;

John J. Smith, St. Louis, Missouri, $16.3-million; Masonry Arts, Bessemer, Alabama, $15.5-million; R&R Masonry, North Hollywood, California, $9.2-million; J&E Duff, Carol Stream, Illinois; Krestchmar & Smith, Riverside, California$7.4-million; Fred A. Kinateder, Waukesha, Wisconsin, $6-million; KMCO, Incorporated, Miamisburg, Ohio, $5.9-million; and Edgar Boettcher, Traverse City, Michigan, $5.6-million. The fifteen MCAA members accounted for a total of $252,700,000.

The report by the prestigious construction publication confirms what we've contended all along that MCAA members lead the masonry industry in all respects, not only in terms of craftsmanship, but also in terms of sales and profitability.

As members of MCAA, these movers and shakers are owners of the only national magazine published by and for mason contractors - Masonry Magazine.

A congratulatory tip of the hat, Boss!-- Gene Adams
