MCAC 152nd State Meeting registration now open

Words: Julie TrostRegistration is now open for the 152nd MCAC State Meeting and 2014/15 Board of Directors Election being held September 20, 2013 at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach, Calif.

A national masonry Building Information Modeling (BIM) initiative is underway. Currently, if an architect or engineer wants to determine how a particular material might look or function in a build- ing, masonry is not there. Steel, concrete, and precast are there but not masonry. Six industry groups and several other affiliated organizations have banded together to change that. Through this collabo- ration, the National BIM for Masonry Initiative (BIM-M) created a roadmap for developing and deploying BIM for the masonry industry. David Biggs, Biggs Consulting Engineer, is the masonry industry coordinator for the ini- tiative and will share his insight on this project.

The Concrete Masonry Association of CA and NV (CMACN) is hosting Mr. Biggs’ presentation and has invited MCAC members to participate. MCAC will conduct our business meeting and election during a break-out from the BIM presentation. MCAA executive director, Jeff Buczkiewicz, will also be joining us for Mr. Biggs’ presentation and the MCAC meeting.

After the meetings are done, stay and celebrate with an evening that recognizes outstanding architectural design that incorporates the use of concrete masonry within the building envelope. The program also recognizes the Designers, Builders, Structural Engineers, Concrete Masonry Suppliers, and Owners. Cheer on colleagues, peers, and friends while commemorating the concrete masonry industry.

The deadline to register is August 12, 2013.
