House Subcommittee moves CMU Check-off Bill forward

Words: Rick ThompsonThe Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade unanimously voted last week to approve HR985, the Concrete Masonry Products Research, Education, and Promotion Act which would authorize the concrete masonry industry to pursue the creation of a commodity check-off initiative.

Provided that concrete masonry producers in turn approves the check-off initiative, self-assessments would be used to raise revenue for needed generic programs and projects to advance the use of concrete masonry.

The legislation now moves forward for consideration by the Energy and Commerce Committee.
