Jerry Painter Begins Term as President of The Masonry Society

Words: Phillip SamblanetWith the conclusion of The Masonry Society's 2015 Annual Meeting, Jerry M. Painter of Painter Masonry Inc. began his term as President of the Society, succeeding Scott Walkowicz, who served the Society for the past two years. As President, Painter is the Chair of the Society's Board of Directors, which oversees all aspects of Society business. He also serves as Chair of TMS's Executive Committee, which manages the Society between meetings of the Board of Directors. He has served in many roles within TMS including President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, Director to the Board, and member of numerous Committees including TMS 402/602, the Construction Practices Committee and past member of the Technical Activities Committee.

Mr. Painter is the President of Painter Masonry, Inc. in Gainesville, Florida, and is a third generation bricklayer. He is also the President of Jerry Painter Masonry Consulting providing peer-review services for design and building phase as well as inspection service on existing structures. He is past president of the Masonry Association of Florida (MAF) and the Board Trustee of the North Central Florida Chapter and currently serves on the Board of the Florida Masonry Apprenticeship and Education Foundation (FMAEF). He received the MAF Lifetime Achievement Award for 2001. Mr. Painter is currently the Technical Committee Co-Chairman and the Florida State Chairman for the Masonry Contractors Association of America (MCAA). He serves on ASTM Committees C12, C15, and C27, and chairs Subcommittee C15.05. He is currently Chair of C12 and a Fellow of ASTM. Mr. Painter was honored in the 1st Class of MCAA's Hall of Fame for his leadership and support of the masonry industry.

In addition to Mr. Painter beginning his term as TMS President, a number of other changes were made to TMS's leadership structure including new appointments to the Board of Directors.
