Elected to guide MCAA activities through 1961 are: (left to right) E. Lyle Parsley, vice president-west- Joseph Szabo, treasurer; James Lonie, vice president; Stephen Raimo, president, Herman May, secretary; Anthony Perri, vice president-east; and Les Dietrich, vice president-midwest.
During ballotting, members voted constitution and by-law changes calling for allocation of two vice presidents for Canada and a dues increase, a measure which was passed by an overwhelming majority.
During count by tellers, T. W. Kirk, St. Louis, and Norman Erb, Phoenix, presented informative outlines of what their chapters are doing to promote the industry.
Tuesday activities were concluded by the annual banquet, held at the Benjamin Franklin Hotel. Facilities were taxed by a capacity throng. Entertainment was provided by Howard Lanin and his orchestra.
Close-out sessions Wednesday morning were highlighted by two practical demonstrations of masonry construction. Traditionally, this last convention day is devoted to practical in-field demonstrations of equipment, techniques and aspects of materials handling, and have ranked high in interest. The sessions Feb. 22 were no exception.
An explanation of the "SCR masonry process" was presented by Robert Taylor, director of Structural Clay Products Research Foundation, during which MCAA members witnessed an actual demonstration of a bricklayer using the process to build a wall.
How west coast interests are regaining a portion of the masonry market in that area was demonstrated by Oscar Person, MCAA member who showed a film on the high-lift grouting system. In this system, brick walls serve as forms for reinforced concrete walls in a technique that exceeds code requirements, yet is very favorable in cost.
Taylor and Person fielded questions from the audience concerning both processes at the conclusion of the demonstrations.
Formal convention sessions were adjourned at noon Feb. 22 by President Raimo.
It was announced the 1962 convention will be held Feb. 11-14 at the Shamrock Hilton in Houston.
