The meeting of the Illinois Chapters, MCA, Jan. 27-28, at the Villa Moderne in Cook County was attended by more than 50 representatives of the state chapters. Under direction of Reno Fabbri, Highland Park, state MCAA vice president, the informative sessions included a tour of O'Hare airport and the million-dollar lab of Portland Cement Association in Skokie the afternoon of Jan. 27. Business sessions were held the following morning. Jack C. McCoe has been appointed assistant technical director of Permante Cement Co., and will headquarter at the company's technical lab near San Jose, Calif.
Koehring Div., Milwaukee and Port Washington, Wis., is holding sales management conferences with key distributors in seven areas across the country to appraise and program the firm's construction equipment business for 1961. John Segner, called the

"brick man," vice president of Robert K. Thrower, Inc., Atlanta, was named winner of a sales training scholarship competition among brick and tile salesmen of the National Association of Distributors & Dealers of Structural Clay Products. He took top honors in a competitive exam of product knowledge.
Recent visitors to MCAA's national headquarters, 208 South La Salle St., Chicago, included Ronald L. Bledsoe, advertising manager of Arketex Ceramic Corp.; Robert F. Berg. Universal Atlas Cement Company, Div. of U. S. Steel; Robert Tubesing, Milwaukee Chapter member and vice president, Wisconsin; and Arthur Stone, sales manager of Malvern Brick & Tile Co. Stone, well-known throughout the industry for his part in promoting masonry packaging as a moderator of the outdoor Material Handling & Packaging Jamboree at the previous three MCAA conventions, covers the entire country for Malvern and plans on taking several days from a swing east to attend the 11th annual convention in Philadelphia.
Use of concrete block in construction of family fallout shelters received high promotion in the northwest through a public showing in Seattle, and is currently being promoted by the Portland Cement Association, 33 W. Grand, Chicago, Ill., who offer details for the asking. Ron Ryner, executive secretary, Construction Specifications Institute, Washington, D. C., was in Chicago last month for CSI's board meeting to set up programming for the annual convention May 22-24 in New York City. Ryner was formerly director of Region 5, Structural Clay Products Institute.
Tomasello Bros., Inc., member of New York Chapter, MCA, has moved to 225 Nassau Blvd., South, Garden City South, N. Y. American Lumberman, well-known building materials publication headquartered in Chicago, has changed its name to Building Materials Merchandiser.
