BRICK & TILE INDUSTRY EXECUTIVE BECOMES HONORARY MEMBER OF AIA

PHILADELPHIA-Douglas Whitlock, chairman of the board of Structural Clay Products Institute, was made an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects at the AIA annual convention here April 26. The honor was conferred on Whitlock and five others at an awards luncheon by AIA President Philip Will, Jr.

Whitlock was the only building materials industry man among those honored.

The AIA citation paid tribute to Whitlock's contributions to the advancement of the profession of architecture by his "notable achievement in the organization of the construction industry." He has long been a leader in various movements to bring construction industry groups in a closer working relationship with each other.

Among Whitlock's achievements have been a 14-city closed circuit television information meeting for architects sponsored by the Allied Masonry Council, direction of an architectural esthetics project called "Man and Masonry"; a recording exploring the esthetic attributes of masonry; and 25 years as leader of Structural Clay Products Institute.
