MCAA Executive Board
Stresses Education Program

The Executive Board of the Mason Contractors Association of America held its annual summer meeting at the Sheraton Hotel, Portland, Ore., with over 40 members and their families in attendance.

With Vice President Les Dietrich, St. Louis, presiding, Board Members discussed a wide range of subjects, all of immediate concern to the Mason Contracting Industry.

Committee meetings were held all day Thursday and Friday morning with the Annual MCAA Golf Tournament being held on Friday afternoon. Starting at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, the Board went into Executive session. One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation by the Education Committee of its plans for the coming months. Secretary Herman May, presenting the report, indicated that the Third Management Institute will be held on October 5 and 6, and will cover Insurance and Legal matters. In addition Mr. May stated that efforts were underway to develop a Home Study Course which could be made available to every MCAA member at a very nominal cost. It was heartily agreed that the Education Committee should proceed immediately to implement this valuable membership service.

Finance Committee Chairman E. J. DiSabatino presented the proposed budget for the Association during the coming year, and graphically outlined the various items being considered. The report, as presented by M. DiSabatino, was adopted for the coming fiscal year.

The Apprentice programs underway in the country were reviewed by MCAA Apprentice Chairman Herschel Hunt. Mr. Hunt stated that latest figures compiled by the U. S. Department of Labor indicated there are 107 classes in welding in various sections of the country, with over 1,500 apprentices and journeymen participating.

In the field of Material Handling the Executive Board adopted the following action: "The Material Handling Committee recommended that a 24 x 32 size masonry package, or those compatible or complimentary with it be adopted by all MCAA Chapters and their members.
