A word of welcome was made by Michael Coco, Gerard, and Mayor Barr. Jack Johnstone, Executive Vice President, Joseph K. Dennis Co., presented a review of the company's insurance program which was recently inaugurated. Brigadier General Alvan C. Gillem then gave the members and wives a stirring and factual review of the activities of the Strategic Air Command. Those who heard the General will long remember some of the clarifying facts concerning this arm of our nation's defense. Filling in for one of the featured speakers, George presented a review of MCAA activities during the year.




Tuesday afternoon business centered around a lively presentation on Industry Promotion Funds. Highlight of the meeting was the address by MCAA Legal Counsel Peer Pedersen, followed by a question and answer period. Members attending heard various allied association representatives outline promotional aids which were available. Jack Clark, SCPI; Les Barron, Vermiculite Institute; Richard Branham, NCMA; and Ken Gutschick, National Lime Association, gave members many valuable training materials. William Roark, Mason Relations Director, SCPI, gave a review of the status of Apprenticeship Programs and their position relative to recent decisions.




Wednesday morning's full business session was opened with prayer by Dr. A. Dixon Rollit. Jack Staehle, Vice President, Alden's, Inc., Chicago, then gave the audience a stirring address on "What Makes An Organization Successful & Profitable". Mr. Staehle's speech appears on page 13 of this issue of Masonry. Other speakers on Wednesday's program were Thomas F. Murphy, Secretary, B.M.I.U., and George King, Treasurer, of the International Union. Hugh Murphy, Assistant Administrator, Dept. of Labor, presented a short message on Apprentice Training. Kenneth Keene, Associate Actuary, New York Life Insurance Co., then outlined for the delegates the Responsibilities of Employers on Setting Up Pension Plans. Stephen Byers, MCAA Member, then presented an address on the Critical Path Method and scheduling and planning of Masonry projects. Mr. Byers comments will be covered in a later issue of Masonry.




The annual meeting was convened by President James Lonie at 1:30 with reports of the various officers being on the agenda. A summary of Committee work was presented with each Committee Chairman adding his personal comments on the past years' work.




The chair then called on the nominating committee chairman Stephen D. Raimo to present the slate of officers for election.




The following MCAA officials were elected to guide the organization in 1963: President James Lonie, Dayton, Ohio; Vice President Walter Dietrich, St. Louis, Mo. Regional Vice Presidents Cook, Miami, Fla.; Merman May, Houston, Texas: and L. Johnston, Tacoma, Wash. Secretary Donald Detroit Mich. Treasurer Frank Zoubek, Kenosha, Wis.




Board East: E. J. DiSabatino, Herschel Y. William F. Nelson, Harold W. Peterson, and Stephen D. Raimo.

Graphs (Top to bottom): The Bricklayers, Masons & Plasterers International Union display featured a beautiful section of with a demonstration of various types of craftsmanship for show hours. MCAA annual Banquet and Dinner Dance held in the ballroom of the Hilton. A new undertaking by the MCAA was a display of masonry projects of the various members. Third shows a small section of these exhibits. The ladies enjoyed luncheons and fashion shows, but the traditional coffee hours were the main attraction to most of the women.
