Combine Business & Pleasure at Texas Meeting
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS The 5th Annual State Meeting of the Associated Masonry Contractors of Texas held at the Driscoll Hotel was one of the finest ever held by the group. Combining business with pleasure MCAA State Vice President Gerald Sutherland found a wonderful formula which made the four day meeting a rousing success.
First on the agenda was an overnight fishing trip which departed on Wednesday morning. On Thursday delegates attended the President's Reception sponsored by Henderson Clay Products Co.
At the Annual Meeting of the Associated Masonry Contractors held on Saturday afternoon Charles C. Danna, Jr. was elected President and MCAA State Vice President-Elect. Other officers of the State group are Turner Smith, Vice President and Robert J. Fenimore, Secretary-Treasurer.
Business sessions got underway on Friday morning with Charles P. Howerton, General Electric Computer Dept., and Ralph Lucas, The George A. Fuller Co., presenting an informative summary of the Critical Path Method. At noon the group was guest of the Elgin-Butler Brick Co. for lunch. At three p.m. members and their families journeyed by bus to Padre Island where Texas Industries sponsored a Shrimp Boil and Fish Fry.
Saturday morning the contractors heard Lester Mabre, President, AIA, Corpus Christi: Tanner Freeman, President, AGC, Corpus Christi; George Miller, MCAA Executive Vice President; James Jones, Executive Vice President, Texas Concrete Masonry Association; and Dean Ramey, Clay Products Association. During the afternoon session Mel Allen, Structural Clay Products Research Foundation, Geneva, III. gave an excellent address on Cleaning Clay Masonry Walls.
The Ladies too had a full agenda of activities. Style shows, boat tours, special breakfasts were just part of the many events which they enjoyed.
The shrimp boil and fish fry was tremendous. Even the weatherman pitched in to serve up a wonderful day for the outing. Ball, horseshoes and just plain relaxation were the business of the day at Padre Island. In the background one can see the beautiful beach which many in the party enjoyed.
