Schedule Texas Meeting
Aug. 16-23 at Normangee

The Board of Directors of the Associated Masonry Contractors of Texas met during February at Hilltop Lakes, near Normangee, Texas, to discuss plans for their forth coming state meeting. State Chairman Charles Danna has announced that Hilltop Lakes will be the site of the 1964 Meeting which will be held August 16th through 23rd. Mr. Danna indicates that a full agenda of business meetings will be held supplemented by an enjoyable social program for all.

Reservations for the meeting should be made before July 1 with Jerry Jarboe, Executive Secretary, 1114 Cortlandt, Houston 8, Texas.


Celebrate Anniversary

The Mason Contractors Exchange of Southern California celebrated their 50th Anniversary on February 1st. Highlights of the all-day program were a meeting and discussion of projects currently underway followed by a dinner dance held at the Statler-Hilton in Los Angeles. New officers of the Exchange are: Charles Rodgers, San Diego; Paul Roper, Orange County; Talbot Kent, Ventura; Jack Turpin, San Fernado Valley; Bob Frantz, San Gabriel Valley and Pat Carlin, Los Angeles.


CSI Discusses Masonry

Theme of the February meeting of the Chicago Chapter, CSI, was "New Achievements in Masonry," a panel discussion led by Norman Lunde, Illinois Brick Co. Panel members were Bill Loewer, PCA: Corb Garton, SCPI; William Soderstrom, SCPRF; Will Brynjolfson, Dur-O-waL; H. W. Haser, Sr.; and Joseph Lucas, AA Wire Products Co. Subjects covered were: Hi-Bond Mortars; Cleaning of Clay Masonry; Flexible Masonry Bonding; Strength of Decorative Concrete Masonry; Stone in Construction and Specifications concerning the above mentioned topics.


SCPI Appoints Berlow

Lawrence Berlow, registered architect, has been appointed Architectural Representative for Structural Clay Products Institute, Region 5, according to Corb Garton, Executive Director. Larry is a 1950 graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology in Architecture. Since graduation, he has had experience with several Chicago area architects, as well as his own practice. Larry has been with SCPI since the middle of November. During this period, he has been engaged in an orientation program for Structural Clay Products. He is now beginning his initial coverage of architectural firms in Region 5. The Association offices are located in the Builders Building, 228 North LaSalle Street, Chicago. Patent Scaffolding Now
A Div. of Harsco Corp.

Effective January 2, 1964, Patent Scaffolding Co. became a division of Harsco Corporation, of Harrisburg, Penna.

PSCo.'s scaffolding, shoring, hoist tower, sidewalk bridge and ladder business will be continued as a new division to be known as Patent Scaffolding Co., Division of Harsco Corporation.

PSCo.'s headquarters in Long Island City and its branches in 25 cities throughout the country will continue to operate under present management and personnel.

Harsco Corporation's other eight divisions manufacture a broad range of products ranging from automotive tools and dies, special alloy castings, a variety of fittings, flanges and forgings to plastic moldings, and equipment for recovering metal from steel-making slag.

Hughes UMA President

Tom Hughes has been installed am President of the Portland, Ore., Uni Masonry Association. Hughes succeed Howard Jacobs. Other officers fo 1964 are: Tom Snowhill, Vice President; Kent Vickery, Secretary, and Howard O'Bryant, Treasurer. The annual installation and dinner dance was held on Feb. 28th.


Taylor Appointed

James C. Taylor, Tacoma, Washington, MCAA Member, has been appointed by Governor Albert Rosellini as Management Representative to the State Advisory Committee-Man power Development and Training Ac of 1962.

Mr. Taylor is President of James Taylor Masonry, Inc., Tacoma, ane has been active in the MCA Chapter.


Form New Illinois Group

Harry Bevignani, Chicago, has bee selected to lead a new Illinois State organization of Concrete Masonry Producers. Other officers of group elected at a meeting held in Bloomington, III., recently were: Frank Neumann, vice president; and Hal Olson, secretary-treasurer. Directors are: Homer Gorzine, Fred Fournic, Ed Karceski, Gus Kirnbauer, James Mills, Clyde Stewart and William Whetzel.


Koehring, Thew Merger

The terms of the proposed merge between Koehring Company of Milwaukee, Wis., and The Thew Shovel Co., Lorain, O., have been approved by the boards of directors of the two firms.

Koehring directors, at a re-convened meeting today, approved the terms of the merger plan and also declared a regular dividend for the first quarter of 1964 of $.25 per share of common stock, payable on February 28 to shareholders of record on January 24. Other dividends approved by the Koehring board were: $.622 per share of Koehring Series A Preferree $.68% per share of Series C Preferred; and $.68% per share of Series D Preferred all payable on March 31 to shareholders of record on Mare 16.
