Ceramic News
The Mapleton Development plant is continuing to operate smoothly at a satisfactory rate of production. Present production of the furnace itself is limited by the capacity of the slinger. It is anticipated that planned modifications of the slinger will correct this situation so that the furnace will be able to operate at or near rated capacity.
In the meantime, the ceramic research staff is investigating various compounded bodies that can be used as the binder with "SCR veri-lite" aggregate. The goal is to develop compounded bodies (not necessarily using the "parent" clay), with fluxes, that will permit the use of higher percentages of the lightweight aggregate. Reg. U. S. Pat.
