Vermiculite Institute Elects Boone

The Vermiculite Institute of Chicago held its 23rd annual Convention March 15-19 at Chandler, Ariz. The program centered around the theme, "Sales to Soar in '64."

C. H. Wendel, chairman of the market development committee, reported that 1963 had been the finest year in the industry's history, and that plans designed to keep sales moving right on up would be unveiled at the meeting.

D. J. Boone, manager, marketing department, Zonolite Div. of W. R. Grace & Co., Chicago, was elected president. He succeeds L. K. Irvine of Salt Lake City, Utah. E. R. Murphy was returned as managing director, and R. W. Sterrett, as treasurer.

W. V. Culver of Seattle, Wash., and J.G. Ordway of St. Paul, Minn., were named to the board of directors. Hold-over directors, besides Boone, are J. H. Greer of Houston, Tex., and H. K. Sterrett of Nashville, Tenn.

The Mason Contractors Association of America was represented on the program by Paul Rosensteel, executive director of the Arizona Masonry Guild, who presented the paper prepared by guest speaker George A. Miller, unable to attend because of illness. In developing his subject, "Vermiculite Masonry Fill, the Mason Contractor, and You," Miller noted that water-repellent vermiculite insulation represents a large new market for the mason contractor, as well as for the vermiculite industry.

"It therefore behooves both of us to protect and defend the fine characteristics which you have built into your product," he continued. "The average mason contractor today is eager to learn of any products, systems, and methods so that he can, first of all, remain competitive with outside substitute materials; and secondly, he can remain (Continued on page 17)
