Golf Champions
Due to some technical difficulties at the recent Executive Board Meeting held at Tan-Tar-A, a photograph of the golf champions was not run in the last issue of Masonry. Here are the winners Mrs. Billie Jean Soloff, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and O. L. Jollay, Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Soloff received MCAA's Golf Trophy, while Jollay was the winner of the '66 Glass Block Trophy.

Annual Outing Detroit's Largest
DETROIT, MICH. The masonry industry turned out in force to make the Detroit Chapters' Summer Outing the largest and best of its kind in this city. Bonnie Brook Country Club again provided the location for this fine event on July 27.

Under the guidance of Chairman Frank Knapp, this large and spirited group of well over 400 enjoyed the event-filled day to the utmost.

Faced with a steady rain all morning, a determined group of 67 "ducks" entered the golf tournament. In the closest to the pin contest, Mr. Fred Rohn, Sr. took top honors. Howard Hicks took second place, with Bob Pachota gaining third place. Although many attempted the "drive the green" contest, few succeeded. The successful ones were Bob Costes, Dwight Lewis, Sam Magna, and again, Bob Pachota.

With the weather clearing in the afternoon many of the fellows participated in the horseshoe tournament. At the end of the day, the three top participants, Skip Roncelli, Jack Hackett and Carl Eiliott entered into a round-robin playoff. This proved to be quite a contest with Elliott being eliminated by Hackett and Roncelli besting Hackett for the tournament championship.

After providing a welcome refreshment wagon for golfers and horseshoe pitchers, Vito Ippolito led most of the fellows to the softball diamond. Once again, the contractors and the suppliers squared off with the usual outcome a "closely played, outstandingly pitched" match with the final score being contractors 18 and suppliers 12.

At the Registration Desk, (1. to r.): Gleeson Bros. Grant Church, Executive Secretary, and Ed Gilbroth.

Highlight of the day was the naming of the outstanding contractor and individual awards of 1966. Hardworking Howard Hicks received the outstanding contractor award with Bob Vandervennet and Dwight Lewis receiving honorable mention. The outstanding individual award went to Jack Hackett with John Heslip and Tom Sarrine receiving honorable mention.

The committee who worked long and hard to make 1966 the best yet were: Frank Knapp, Chairman, Floyd Nixon, Elton Asmus, Ron Schifko, Vito Ippolito, John Knecht, Parker Munger, Bob Pachota, John Heslip, Ed Boike, Jack Hackett, Jack Robinson, Ed Gilbreth, Don Evans, Wes Liddle, Sam Magna, and Don Lage.

What life demands of us is courage. What God wants is to see us learning to make ourselves happier in the midst of happiness, and happier still in the midst of sadness.
