LENNON JOINS NADD

Thomas S. Lennon, 34, has been named Executive Secretary of the National Association of Dealers and Distributors of structural clay products (NADD). The announcement was made by NADD President John F. Hallman at the group's 10th annual meeting at the Greenbrier.

Lennon was Corporation Secretary of the Structural Clay Products Institute (SCPI) thus succeeds E. J. Newbould who has joined the National Clay Pipe Institute. The NADD office is co-located in SCPI's new headquarters on the outskirts of Washington, D.C.

Prior to his SCPI post, Lennon was Washington director for the Facing Tile Institute. He is a graduate of Niagara University, St. Bonaventure University, and Georgetown University Law School. As NADD secretary Lennon will coordinate and administer the dealer's sales training programs, product promotions, seminars, and general programs.


Marks Memorial Fund

The establishment of a memorial to aid heart research, in memory of the late Sidney J. Marks, Executive Vice President of Material Service, division of General Dynamics, has been announced by Patrick H. Hoy, President.

The University of Chicago School of Medicine is to be the recipient of the memorial, to be known as the Sidney J. Marks Memorial for Heart Research. The University has one of the most advanced programs in the world for the study and treatment of heart disease, and gifts to the Memorial Fund will directly assist in staffing and operating its newly-opened cardiology intensive care center in Billings Hospital.

Appoint Benzick

Allen B. Benzick has been named Executive Secretary for the Concrete & Masonry Contractors Association of Minneapolis. Mr. Benzick has offices at 1821 University Avenue, Room 250, St. Paul, Minn. His telephone number is a/c 612 646-2893. Mr. Benzick is not new to the masonry industry since he served the group as executive director some five years ago while employed by Glacier Sand & Gravel Co.

Apprentice Opportunities

The military and naval forces of our country are discharging veterans at the rate of 50,000 a month more than half-a-million a year.

Opportunities for education and training have been opened for them to help in the conversion from military to productive civilian status.

Many of these returning veterans will not be able nor have the inclination to attend college. For them the skills of apprenticeship may be the key to a highly productive career and all the personal and professional satisfactions incident thereto.

In a sense, the returning veteran is a kind of windfall for industry. It is true that his military experience will be remote in varying degrees from the apprenticeable occupations. But on the other side, the veteran is a skilled man in his own right, accustomed to both the idea and fact of training.


Honor Harry Plummer

Thirty-three years of service to the brick industry came to an end at the Greenbrier this month as more than 800 conventioneers paused to pay tribute to the retiring Harry C. Plummer.
