Bricklayers Elect T. Murphy
LAS VEGAS-Thomas F. Murphy has been elected President of the Bricklayers, Masons & Plasters International Union of America at the organizations 29th Biennial and 70th Convention held here on September 9-13. Featured speaker on the opening program was Allen Bible, U.S. Senator, Nevada, and Thomas E. Woodward, Woodward, Cape Associates. On Tuesday the delegates heard Cornelius J. Haggerty, President, Building & Construction Trades Dept., AFL-CIO, and George A. Miller, Executive Vice President, Mason Contractors Association of America.
On Wednesday and Thursday resolutions presented to the convention were discussed and acted upon.

IN MEMORIAM
Harry Heuer, prominent Masonry Industry leader in the Pacific Northwest, died suddenly on Sunday, September 16th. Mr. Heuer was a charter member of the Mason Contractors Association of Portland, Oregon, and had served that group as President. In addition, he had been President of the Oregon Building Congress and MCAA's Regional Vice President.
Indicative of his great interest in apprentice training, was the 12 years that he devoted to the Oregon Apprenticeship Council. Harry Heuer was always ready to lend a helping hand to those who showed a desire to better themselves in the Masonry Industry.
Mr. Heuer received his bricklayers card in 1905, although he started carrying water for his contractor-father's men at the age of eight. Mr. Heuer's grandfather was also a mason contractor in Germany before coming to the United States.
Mr. Heuer was 79 years old, and was to be honored at an Industry Party on Sept. 21st, to celebrate his 80th birthday. He is survived by his wife, 5 children, 16 grand children and 10 great grand children.
His untiring efforts on behalf of MCAA and the entire Masonry Industry will never be forgotten.
