Carawall | Available
A new, attractively textured structural building unit named Carawall I is now available from the Glen-Gery Corporation.

Carawall I combines the quality of structural glazed tile with the dimension of intaglio form. Subtle glazed color irregularities contribute to an unusual surface effect. All units conform to the physical requirements of ASTM Designation: C212-60 for Type FTS (rough).

Available in 8" and 12 square units, in 2" and 4" thicknesses, Carawall I offers an impervious surface for the construction of interior walls. It is particularly appropriate for high traffic and critical areas such as stairwells and corridors and where maintenance is a problem.

Bulletin CWI-69 describes its use and may be obtained by writing: Glen-Gery Corporation, Post Office Box 206, Reading, PA 19607

Waterproofing Guide
A "how to" Guide on the new waterproofing barrier membrane Bituthene has recently been announced by the Construction Products Division of W. R. Grace & Co.

Bituthene is a tough, pliable, waterproof membrane of high quality polyethylene, coated on one side with a thick, factory-controlled layer of adhesive-consistency, rubberized asphalt. It is supplied in rolls interwound with a special release paper wihch protects the adhesive surface until ready for use, and promotes easy handling during installation.

The Guide states that Bituthene is ideal for damproofing and waterproofing applications: vertical foundation walls, tunnels, pools, planters, spandrels, above and below grade-as in parking decks, plazas, and terraces.

The Guide gives examples of horizontal application; vertical application; expansion joint, joint, wall or slab; drain and post detail; split slab-insulated floor and many other applications. The Guide also contains application and specification procedures.

Copies of the Bituthene Guide (CMD-305A) may be obtained by writing Construction Products Division, W. R. Grace & Co., 62 Whittemore Ave., Cambridge, Mass. 02140.

Roof Surface Material
An insulating material that was proven in space by keeping super-cold liquids cold now "beats the heat" as a roof surfacing material.

Tufcon, a roof surface material, is being introduced in the western United States after three years of extensive field testing. It uses perlite as its prime ingredient.

Tufcon is a light weight, inexpensive roof surface that can double the life of an existing roof and triple the life of a new roof, according to Ken White, president of Tufcon Roof Insulation Inc. In addition to being an extremely effective insulating material and long-lived, it is fireproof and offers significant soundproofing qualities, said White.

The perlite is expanded and mixed with many materials including bonding agents, pH control, fungicides, plasticizers and asbestos, nylon and fiberglass fibers.

Fibers are added to Tufcon to give it additional strength and inhibit cracking which is a drawback in many roof coatings, pointed out White.

During the process of mixing, Tufcon is in a semi-fluid state and lends itself to spray application. This is an advantage in that it can be applied to all sections of a roof with an even, uniform surface, added White.

Laboratory tests conducted by the Twining Laboratories of Southern California demonstrated Tufcon's abilities to "beat the heat."

In one of the tests, a roof with 1½ inches of conventional insulation was compared with a roof with only ½ inch of Tufcon.

Other tests by Twining demonstrated Tufcon's fireproofing qualities and flexibility.

Portable Concrete Conveyor
Aeroil Products Company has announced the introduction of their all new 60 ft. Portable Concrete Conveyor. The unit was designed primarily for pouring concrete and handling other building materials such as gravel, brick, block etc.

The Speedmaster Conveyor features hydraulic drive and an optional control at the head end of the conveyor so that it can be operated from either end. The main wheel pivots 90° so that the unit can swivel through an arc and this is especially useful for pouring floors, as well as making it easier to move the Conveyor parallel to the building site. The SPEEDMASTER is equipped with a wave type pattern rubber belt and a belt wiper.

A Free copy of Catalog CO-2 is available by writing to: AEROIL PRODUCTS COMPANY, INC., 7 Wesley Street, South Hackensack, New Jersey 07606.
