Greetings
from
President Young

Welcome to Florida and to the 22nd Annual Convention of MCAA. I suppose you could call this year's meeting the "Thinking Man's" convention. The entire proceedings have been organized to revolve around a single, central theme-THINK! Think Masonry. Think Management Think Money.

The outstanding slate of speakers who will address you at the business sessions will explore this concept in depth and enlarge upon it with their own expert thinking on the Masonry Industry's role in furthering the nation's economy through progressive building systems utilizing masonry construction. Their presentations will bear directly on you, with an aim toward improving your management methods and, subsequently, your profits.

Although it was disappointing that MCAA's so-called "Five Year Plan" proposed at the Executive Board meeting in June has been delayed due to the federal government's wage-price freeze, it is encouraging to note that-on an industry-wide basis the promotional efforts of the International Masonry Institute have shown most encouraging promise. Full-page advertisements promoting the use of masonry building materials are now appearing in such prestigious national publications as Fortune, Business Week, Architectural Record, Progressive Architecture, Buildings, House & Home, and Professional Builder.

These eight magazines have a combined circulation in excess of 8.5 million among building professionals and businessmen, and we look forward to profitable results from this initial campaign. A complete progress report relating to the activities of IMI is carried elsewhere in this issue.

While this year's meeting will be devoted to some very serious business, it won't be lacking in pleasure and comfortable surroundings. The location in Bal Harbour-the first MCAA Convention to be held in Florida-was specifically chosen to give those members from the northern areas a welcome respite from winter weather. And a special "Fun Day" also has been created to afford a full day of leisure and relaxation-free from the day-to-day pressures of business. I hope you will take full advantage of this opportunity to unwind.

The MCAA Convention this year will be the largest- and surely one of the most diversified that we have ever experienced. On behalf of the Officers of the Association, may I remind you to support all of the progressive firms that will be exhibiting their products and services at the Annual Educational Trade Show. Stop in and visit each and every one of them.

And a special thanks to Jack Cook of Miami, this year's Convention Chairman, who has worked so diligently to make this most important of our annual affairs a sure-fire success.

As I approach the end of my second term as your President, I have many additional people to thank for their wonderful help and cooperation in assisting me in carrying out my duties. I can honestly state that it was a distinct honor and pleasure to serve in this capacity, and my heart- felt appreciation goes out to all MCAA Officers and Members who have helped make my term in office a rich and rewarding experience.
