MCAA CONVENTION

Labor law specialist Charles A. Kothe and marketing expert Mike Pekarek have been added to the outstanding slate of speakers who will address MCAA's Annual Convention in the Americana Hotel, Bal Harbour, Florida, January 7-12.
They will appear on a roster that includes Dr. D. Quinn Mills, Secretary of the Construction Industry Stabilization Committee, and Neal English, Executive Director of the International Masonry Institute. Their professional qualifications were outlined in the September issue of Masonry.
Kothe, a specialist in corporate and administrative laws with special emphasis on labor relations, will discuss the new safety regulations as they apply to the construction industry generally and the Masonry field in particular.
Kothe is eminently qualified for his specialty. He has served as an arbiter in a number of industrial disputes and as a panel member of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services. He also has been a consultant to and a member of various committees in the Department of Labor under Secretaries Mitchell, Goldberg and Wirtz.
Kothe presently serves on special committees of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and as a members of the National Labor Management Policy Committee. He has conducted more than seventy seminars for businessmen in the subject of Title VII, and for this was awarded a Presidential commendation.
Mike Pekarek, who serves in a dual role as Director of the Speakers' Bureau as well as Advertising and Promotion for the National Cash Register Company in Dayton, Ohio, is generally regarded as a communicator of warmth, wit and wisdom.
Basically, he says, his interest is people and how they fit into today's specialized, technological world. "What they need, what they want, what motivates them beyond complacency to involvement and self-satisfaction," to put it in his own words.
His travels for NCR have taken him before hundreds of audiences, and he is noted for his awesome ability to grip his listeners. Once he was speaking to a summer resort group in the open air. But before he finished, a near-hurricane sprang up. Pekarek, however, was able to hold each firmly in his seat-which was pretty good considering the way the seats themselves were moving around!
