Plans for the '72 MCAA Convention are now nearing completion, according to Convention Chairman Jack Cook, Miami. Cook has announced that on Sunday afternoon the members will have a two-part action packed program the first segment will feature an in-depth discussion of the "Construction Industry Stabilization Committee" presented by Dr. D. Quinn Mills, Secretary of the Committee. The second part will be "The Shapes of Things To Come"-a fast-moving presentation produced to give you an insight into the new developments within the Masonry Industry.
Several speakers for the Monday morning session have been announced. They are Neal English, Executive Director of IMI and Thomas F. Murphy, President of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers International Union. Mr. English will graphically present a progress report on the activities of IMI and discuss the role of the promotion arm of the Industry. President Murphy will speak on the progress being made by the Union in the new fields of development and the role that the Mason Contractor plays in the progress of the Industry.
Dr. Mills is currently Assistant Professor of Industrial Relations at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Research Associate, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He is also Consultant to the Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Labor.
In the areas of arbitration and mediation, Dr. Mills is a public member of the Appeals Board, Local 103, IBEW, National Electrical Contractors' Association (Boston Metropolitan area), and a member of the Mediation Panel which was established under the Boston Area Construction Industry Equal Employment Opportunity Agreement (Boston Plan).
Dr. Mills previously was associated with the President's Council of Economic Advisors and the President's Committee on Urban Housing.
Neal English, who was appointed to his present post approximately one year ago, is the first Executive Director of the International Masonry Institute, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining IMI he had been Public Relations Director for the masonry September, 1971 American Institute of Architects. Before that he was National Director of the Office of Public Information for the American National Red Cross.
He presently is membership chairman for the Washington Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and is active in various civic programs. He is a journalism graduate of Ohio State University.
On Friday, January 7, MCAA Convention delegates will be treated to a special "Fun Day." There will be no work or business to attend to the entire day will be devoted to socializing and relaxation. You can play golf, go deep sea fishing, or just plain lounge around in the warm Miami sun. The first MCAA Golf Tournament will be held on Fun Day at the Country Club of Miami's championship course. But if you prefer deep sea fishing, charter boats will be available to accommodate you. Whatever your choice, there'll be plenty to do and see on Fun Day!
