PCA Appointments
The Portland Cement Association has announced three executive appointments as part of a consolidation of its marketing activities. Joseph A. Leadabrand, vice president far marketing and promotion, will report directly to the president. George H. Paris, vice president for market planning and development, and Walter E. Kunze, Jr., vice president for regional operations in the United States.


Honor F & R Builders
The Miami Masonry Guild has named F & R Builders, Inc., Dade County's leading home builder in 1970, as recipient of the Guild's first "Mark of Masonry" award.

The "Mark of Masonry" was created to single out Dade County homes, commercial buildings and construction firms which "reflect the ultimate utilization of masonry products in construction," according to George Miller, treasurer of the Miami Masonry Guild.

"The selection committee chose F & R Builders, Inc., after reviewing construction specifications which the Masonry Guild feels represent the maximum effort towards inherent quality construction," Miller added in presenting the citation to Arnold Rosen, president of F & R.

F & R constructed and sold 777 homes during 1970 with a dollar volume of $20.3 million. The firm has built approximately 7,500 homes in Dade County since 1954 and led the home building field for the past three years. Its developments include Village Green, Point Royale, Pine Acres Estates and Showcase Homes.

The Miami Masonry Guild, comprised of masonry contractors, suppliers and masons, is financed in part by the Dade County Masonry Construction Industry Advancement Fund AMERICANA HOTEL January 8-12, 1972 Bal Harbour, Florida and provides a platform from which the industry story is told and upgraded.

Gregor Pichler
Gregor G. Pichler, founder of Pichler Construction Co., died of a heart attack on Thursday afternoon, May 6, while working in his yard.

Mr. Pichler, a founding member of the Mason Contractors Association of America, was elected treasurer of the organization at the 6th Annual Convention held in Louisville, Kentucky, and in 1958 was elected as a regional vice president.

He served the Milwaukee Chapter very faithfully, having been elected as its president, and holding other positions in the organization. At the time of his death he was a member of the board of directors of ACEA, and a trustee of the Building Trades United Pension Fund, the Bricklayers Health, Welfare and Vacation Fund, White Collar Welfare Fund, and the Apprenticeship and Training Program. He was also the secretary of Grafton Highlands, a real estate development corporation.

Mr. Pichler was born in Austria and came to Milwaukee in 1927. After World War II he formed the Pichler Construction Co. In 1970 he was named "Construction Man of the Year" by the Allied Construction Employers Association.


Penn-Dixie News
Penn-Dixie Cement Corporation has completed a $4-million financing with a group of institutional investors, Jerome Castle, chairman and president has announced. The proceeds will be used for seasonal working capital needs.

The financing is secured by mineral deposits located in Petoskey, Mich.; Speers Ferry, Va.; West Des Moines, lowa; Nazareth, Pa.; and Howes Cave, N.Y.
