NADD Report
By: Jeffrey L. Brock
WASHINGTON, D.C. The NADD/SCPI 1971 Convention may be over, but this year's NADD activities have just begun. Enthusiasm and keen awareness of strengthening the Association was generated at the Annual Members Meeting held at The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, November 14. The members are out to be "doers" this year, and it appears our Association will strive to become a much more vital segment of the industry.
At the convention, a program was presented designed to service the membership in the fields of educational technical service and product promotion. NADD wants to now become an instrument of more direct service to the membership. Regional product-type seminars were suggested to provide maximum coverage of membership and to improve marketing centers.
The Association was most pleased especially with guest speaker Gordon Binder, the NADD-AIA Scholarship recipient from the University of Michigan. Not only did Binder relate his description of the architectural student today, but he entwined it with the whole educational system. He explained the need for such a scholarship a need that may be overshadowed by surrounding restlessness, but one that is there and is of real consequence to the student.
Promotion and publicity are already in the making for the NADD/SCPI Advanced Sales Engineering Training Course to be held February 14-18, 1972. The course is an intensive five days designed for those salesmen calling on architectural and engineering firms or for the experienced salesman with some technical background. Emphasis will be placed on understanding of the contemporary bearing wall concept, the SCPI code and the technology of clay products construction.
Tile Council Wins
Court Judgment
A judgment of $101,500 has been awarded The Tile Council of America, Princeton, N. J., by the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
The decision upholds that of a lower court and affirms the validity and infringement of two patents for Dry-Set mortar and grout, owned by The Tile Council, in its nine year action against Ceramic Tilers Supply, Inc. of Los Angeles, the defendants.
