David B. Perini has been elected president of Perini Corp., New York City, succeeding his father, the late Louis R. Perini, who was chairman and president when he died on April 16. The firm's board of directors decided not to fill the office of chairman at this time.
Maher Zaky Labib and Igor Bojanovic have joined the New York-based firm of LeRoy Callender, consulting engineer, as senior engineer and senior draftsman, respectively. Both men had been with consulting engineers Severud, Perrona, Sturm, Bandel for the past three years.
F. W. "Bob" Lloyd has been elected board chairman of George A. Fuller Co., New York City. Robert W. Page will continue as president and chief executive officer.
Harry G. Meister, Jr. has been appointed manager, tractor attachment operations of Hyster Co.'s newly formed Construction Equipment Division in Portland, Ore.
NCMA Hosts Customized Concrete Masonry Seminars
A series of 12 Customized Concrete Masonry Luncheon Seminars were held in cities coast-to-coast between April 19 and May 26. Sponsor was the National Concrete Masonry Association in cooperation with local chapters.
The seminars showed how the concrete masonry industry now offers the architect the capability of creating masonry wall materials that both serve the usual skin function of a building and present an appealing and unique facade through customized concrete masonry.
The cities hosting the conferences were Seattle, Denver, Dallas, Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, Miami and Atlanta.
Labor Department Register Lists Union Organizations
The U. S. Department of Labor has announced publication of a new Register of Reporting Labor Organizations which lists 48,756 international and local unions filing reports under the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act as of January 1, 1971.
Labor unions are listed by states, cities and by organizations within each state. Local unions and other entities are listed by local number or designation, and the file number given by the Labor Department at time of filing.
The publication is available at $2.25 per copy (GPO Stock No. 2900-0148) from Superintendent of Documents, U. S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D. C. 20402.
Medusa Expands Plant
Medusa Cement Company, division of Medusa Corporation, has announced plans to modernize and expand its recently acquired cement plant at Clinchfield, Ga. A new dry process kiln will increase clinker capacity from 2.3 to 4.0 million barrels. It is anticipated that the additional capacity will be on line by January 1, 1974.
The new Standard Oil Building, Chicago, when completed in 1972-73 will be the tallest marble-clad structure in the world.
Annual Award Created Honoring Gregor Pichler
In memory of the first anniversary of the passing of long-time industry leader Gregor R. Pichler, the board of directors of the Mason Contractors Association of Milwaukee has announced the establishment of the annual Gregor R. Pichler Award.
The tribute will be paid to the contractor or builder who has most distinguished himself in the area of training apprentices. It will be an industrywide recognition and not just limited to mason contractors.
The Pichler memorial replaces the "Trade Trainer of the Year Award" which has been given out seven times in the past by the Milwaukee MCA.
"There is scarcely a meeting in the masonry or construction industry that goes by without some mention of Greg and his many, many contributions to our industry," said W.C. Dentinger, Jr. of the Milwaukee MCA. "To those who knew and worked with him, he continues to be an inspiration.
"The apprentice program was very close to Greg, and he worked, perhaps, the hardest in that field. We in the masonry industry are extremely pleased with the news of this annual award in his memory."
Fuller Named Manager For Sports Project
The construction management contract for the $100 million first phase of the New Jersey sports complex in Hackensack Meadows has been awarded to George A. Fuller Company of New York City, it was announced by David A. (Sonny) Werblin, chairman of the New Jersey Sports Authority.
The initial phase of the development will include a racetrack for both flat and harness racing, with operations scheduled in 1974, and a football stadium, where the New York Giants plan to start playing in 1975.
Alpha Sells Properties
Alpha Portland Industries, Inc., Easton, Pa., has announced it will sell its portland cement plant in LaSalle, III. plus approximately 1,200 acres of land with extensive limestone deposits and a distribution center in Chicago to Centex Corp. of Dallas for $3 million.
