The road to cooperation is two-way and the trainees are able to put their training experience to practical use by building useful projects for the base such as entrance gates, retaining walls, restrooms and sidewalks and steps. In Fort Lewis, Wash., a training class progressed to a point where they were able to construct public restrooms using stone rather than brick.
Each class consists of six weeks of 40 hours per week. The course covers use of hand tools, mathematics, blueprint reading and practical experience in bricklaying.

John Stewart Baldwin, who holds a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of California, has been named the Institute's Sacramento Valley representative under the direction of Thomas N. Jamieson, executive director of the Masonry Institute Alpha Portland Industries, Inc., Easton, Pa., reports that its earnings for the first quarter of 1973 rose 19% to $.37 per share on revenues of $32.3 million Walter Derk, vice president of Fred S. James Agency, Inc., Chicago, MCAA insurance consultants, spoke on "Workmen's Compensation Reforms" at the May 22 general membership meeting of the Mason Contractors Association of Greater Chicago in Hinsdale, III.
PSC Acquires Company
Construction Compounds, Inc., a Nutley (N.J.) firm specializing in the manufacture of "Kure-Rite" concrete curing compounds, has been acquired by Process Solvent Co. of Kansas City, Kan., according to G.E. Boyer, president of PSC.
The purchase agreement took effect March 1, and the New Jersey firm is now the Construction Compounds Division of PSC. Al Arrigoni, former president, has been retained as general manager.
Process Solvent Co. is an old-line manufacturer of masonry treatments and cleaners, marketing and distributing its products under the trade name "Sure Klean." It also manufactures a consumer line of specialty cleaning products. In addition to its Kansas City plant, PSC manufactures and distributes in Canada through its plant in Kingston, Ont.
