MCAA Summer Executive Board Meeting

Historic and picturesque Cape Cod, with its gently rolling hills, magnificent coastline and splendid seafood, was host for four days to more than 130 MCAA members and their wives attending the Summer Executive Board Meeting at Dunfey's Resort in Hyannis, Mass., June 27-30.
While the entire New England area had been experiencing raw and inhospitable weather for most of the spring, the skies cleared to a brilliant blue and temperatures climbed to the near 80's the day prior to the meeting's start, providing ideal conditions for the two MCAA golf tournaments and other outdoor activities.
As confidently promised and undaunted by meteorological forecasts, MCAA President Charles F. Velardo arranged not only for the salubrious atmospheric conditions but for other amenities that combined to make the meeting both productive from a business standpoint and socially enjoyable.
Meetings started at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, with the Finance Committee convening under the chairmanship of Douglas Hughes to prepare the budget for the coming year. This was followed at 3 p.m. by a roundtable discussion of Apprenticeship & Training, with the main topic of consideration being the establishment of a National Apprenticeship & Training Trust.
After these deliberations, the ladies joined the men at Dunfey's Executive Golf Course for the MCAA Mixed Golf Tournament. The winning couple were Mr. & Mrs. Paul Rosensteel of Phoenix, Ariz. The evening was devoted to an enjoyable "Attitude Adjustment Hour" hosted by the Massachusetts MCA in the Cape Cod Room of the rustic Dunfey's complex.
Friday at 9 a.m. the Research & Material Handling Committees held a highly informative seminar dealing with masonry panel construction and the status of brick packaging in the industry. Research Committee Chairman Mark Parseghian of Nazareth, Pa., covered in detail the various aspects of masonry panels and the work being done by his committee to assist MCAA members in developing this burgeoning and valuable market.
Jerry Dufour, Milwaukee, Wis., Material Handling Committee Chairman, reported on the results of MCAA's brick packaging survey, indicating that most packaging problems centered around the larger size brick such as jumbo, thru-the-wall and king-size units. He showed 30 color slides of actual packaging conditions on various job sites taken within 20 days of the meeting.
