At 1:30 P.M. Sunday, February 8th President Velardo called the MCAA Management Institute to order. The first speaker was Mason Warren, Vice President of the Laborers International Union of North America. He was followed by Mrs. Betty Southard Murphy, Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board. Mrs. Murphy reviewed some of the changes that have been put into effect since she has become Chairman. One of these has been the reinstatement of the oral argument before the board. This was being done to permit a wide discussion on significant labor issues. To this date there have been two such arguments before the commission-one being whether or not performance bonds are mandatory subjects of bargaining. In addition she discussed the role that the Labor Board should play in discrimination matters. Rounding out her presentation Mrs. Murphy cited some significant new areas of development. One being the increased use of arbitration provisions to resolve labor negotiations and thereby prevent strikes.

Following Mrs. Murphy was Frank Bachofer, IUBAC Vice President, representing Thomas F. Murphy, IU President. Then the audience was treated to the west coast premiere of the Brick Institute of America's new film, Man from Monticello moderated by James J. Kilpatrick, internationally famous columnist.

One of the highlights of the entire Convention was the presentation by the International Masonry Apprenticeship Trust introduced by IMAT Chairman Robert Ebeling. The audio-visual description of the aims, objectives and purposes was received enthusiastically for it gave all a better insight into this extremely valuable jointly trusted program for all in the Masonry Industry.

Monday's General Session presided over by President Velardo got off to a fast start with the U.S. Navy Color Guard presenting the colors. First speaker was John Mock, President, Hendrick & Mock, Architects, San Diego. Mr. Mock is one of the leading exponents of loadbearing masonry construction and his presentation gave the members a fascinating journey through his experiences in this particular field. Starting with the April issue of Masonry his address will be carried with ample illustrations so that all throughout the country can benefit from his vast knowledge.

Carl I.. Bradley, FAIA, President of Archonics Corp., Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Chairman of the American Institute of Architects' Energy Committee, then updated members on developments in this area.

Richard F. Larsen, Vice President and Senior Economist for the North America Division of the Bank of America gave the Members a broad view of the economy for 1976. He was indeed one of the most interesting speakers on the program for he spiced his talk with fascinating comments. His overview of the situation was excellent.

A special presentation on all-Weather construction was then made by Eugene George, Chairman of the Masonry Industry All-Weather Council. He introduced a fast moving audio-visual slide show produced by the IMI that captured the attention of all. The material covers informa-
