Stow Mfg. Acquires
Western Products

Stow Manufacturing Co., headquartered in Binghamton, New York, has announced acquisition of the construction equipment product lines of Western Products Division of Douglas Dynamics.

Specific Western products involved are 15 models of mortar and plaster mixers, six concrete mixers, and four "Econoroll" rollers. The equipment is small capacity, lightweight, and easily transportable.

Texamar Makes Move

Texamar Enterprises, Inc., sales agent in the United States and Canada for Fortex Industries, Inc., has moved its executive offices to larger quarters at 127 North Broadway, Hicksville, New York 11801. The demand for Fortex reinforced, crushproof, dent-proof, rustproof 'molded rubber' buckets, pails and tubs have shown a steady increase. In the first quarter of 1976, sales have almost doubled.

Walter L. Dickey for 15 years the structural engineer for the Masonry Institute of America retired on June 30th. Jerry L. Mathis has been appointed President and General Manager of Koehring's Construction Equipment Division, Dayton, Ohio. Larry Kneifel has been named Director-Cost & Statistics for Universal Atlas Cement Div., United States Steel Corp. The appointment of Ralph G. Lawrence as Marketing Manager for Norton Company's Safety Products Division has been announced by A. J. McNamara, Director of Marketing and Sales. The National Insulation Contractors Association has moved its headquarters to 1120 19th St. N.W., Washington, D.C.

Michael E. Werner, P.E., St. Louis, Mo., Building Commissioner, has been appointed Technical Director of the Building Officials and Code Administrators (BOCA) International. J. F. McKoen, Senior Vice President (Continued on page 24)

Honor Corky Doyle

R.C. "Corky" Doyle, past Treasurer of the Masonry Institute, Washington, D.C. was honored at the group's recent general membership meeting for his service to the promotion efforts in the metropolitan area. He was presented a plaque which reads: "For helping to make us what we are today-for patiently persevering for perfection-for wise and gentle counsel-and, mostly, for just being "Corky." Presentation was made by the Institute's President, Pete Hoyt.

Robinson Joins KMI

Charles D. Robinson II has been named executive director of the Kentuckiana Masonry Institute. The announcement was made by Paul A. Clements, Institute Chairman and president of the Mason Contractors Association of Louisville. Robinson's primary duties will be the statewide promotion of masonry construction.

An attractive flyer has been produced by the Masonry Institute of Oregon on the merits of masonry fireplaces. Covering such topics as "What Does the Word 'Masonry' Really Mean?, "A Masonry Fireplace Is Alot Like A Steam Engine," and "Now For The Appeal That Belongs to Masonry Alone" the self-mailer is light in editorial manner but strong in facts. GP Sales & Earnings Up

General Portland Inc. has announced that its sales and earnings for the quarter ended June 30, and for the first half of 1976, showed "marked improvement" over the corresponding periods a year earlier.

For the quarter, net sales were $44.0 million, up from $42.0 million in the second quarter of 1975. Net income was $2.1 million, $.30 per share, compared with $222,000, $.03 per share last year.

For the first half, net sales were $79.3 million, up from $74.5 million last year. Net income was $296,000, $.04 per share, compared with a net less of $2.4 million, $.35 per share, last year.

Form New Association

The Masonry Contractors Association of Virginia has recently been formed to promote masonry construction in Virginia and to keep members apprised of industry and legislative developments throughout the state. In addition, the association plans to institute a comprehensive advertising and public relations program for its members.

Don Goff of Byrd and Goff Construction Co. Inc., Glade Spring, Virginia has been elected president. Serving as secretary-treasurer is Wilmer Rogers of Rogers Masonry, Inc. of Orange, Virginia, and serving as vice-president is C. E. Young of Masonry Contractors, Inc. of Salem, Virginia. Representing supplier members on the Board of Directors are Paul Childress, Lightweight Block Co., Inc., and Robert E. Johnson, Webster Brick Co., both of Roanoke, Virginia.

Easter Associates of Charlottesville, Virginia, a firm specializing in trade association management, has been retained to operate the association and to carry out the initial membership campaign.

Open West Coast Office

Estimation, Inc. of Baltimore, Md., has announced the opening of new West Coast sales/service facilities at 1155 Broadway, Redwood City, CA. 94063. The location will afford complete sales, service and customer installation facilities.
