# Kaufman Promotes Lackey

Henry J. Kaufman & Associates, Washington, D.C.'s largest advertising/public relations agency and the promotion counsel for the International Masonry Institute (IMI), has announced the elevation of Ray Lackey to executive vice president/public relations. Lackey supervises the IMI account.


# Canadian Association Honors Garth Miller

Garth W. Miller, director of promotion of the Ontario Masonry Contractors Association, was recently honored with his induction as a Fellow in Construction Specifications Canada.

A graduate of the University of Manitoba with a degree in architecture, Miller joined Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) in 1967. He became its national president in 1975 and continues to lend his support on the Executive Council as secretary-treasurer. He was elevated to Fellowship at a special ceremony on June 14.

Following the ceremony, one of Miller's colleagues characterized him as an "effective bridge linking the architectural and industrial elements of CSC, especially in relation to his interests in masonry and its applications."


# Arlington Hts. Student Wins Bates Award

Susan Revers, daughter of William Revers, a 26-year member of Local #21, Illinois of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen, is the 1978 recipient of the Harry C. Bates Merit Scholarship. Established by the international union in 1960, the award is given annually to exceptionally talented children of IU members for college educations.

The grant memorializes Harry C. Bates, who retired in 1960 after 25 years' service as president of the International Union. Ms. Revers, who attended Arlington Heights High School in Illinois, intends to enter the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana to further a career in medicine. Each Bates Award is renewable for four years of full-time study leading to a bachelor's degree.


# MCA of Utah Has New Executive Director

Don Reichert, 35, of Alpine, Utah, is the new executive director of the Mason Contractors Association of Utah and Utah Masonry Research & Promotion, Salt Lake City. He replaces Jerry Brailsford, who is returning to mason contracting after five years of service to the association.

Reichert has 17 years' experience in the masonry industry and was a sales representative for Interstate Brick Co., West Jordan, for the past 13 years.


# BIA To Sponsor 1979 Brick Masonry Conference

The Brick Institute of America has announced it will organize and host the Vth International Brick Masonry Conference to take place in Washington, D.C. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, October 5-10, 1979.

The conference is held every three years. The first conference was held in Austin, Texas in 1967. Succeeding conferences took place in Keel, England; Essen, West Germany, and Bruges, Belgium.


# Masonry Centre Set Up in Canada

Six major Canadian masonry organizations have relocated their headquarters from 134 Oakdale Rd. in Downsview, Ontario to the new Canada Masonry Centre at 1013 Wilson Ave., Downsview, Ontario, Canada M3K 1G1. The new telephone number is 416/636-6778.

The organizations involved in the move are the Canadian Masonry Contractors Association, Masonry Research Foundation of Canada, Ontario Masonry Contractors Association, Masonry Industry Employers Council of Ontario, Metropolitan Industrial & Commercial Masonry Contractors, Inc., and Metro Mason Contractors Association.
