Apprentice School Moves, Needs Masonry Materials
Walter Laughlin, president of International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen (BAC) Local #21, has announced the relocation of the local's apprentice training school to 2201 W. Walnut St. in Chicago. III. In addition to larger facilities, the new location is more accessible to public transportation.
Tom Allen. Local #21 apprentice training coordinator, said that the school has an urgent need for new or used brick, block and mortar materials. He said the school would make arrangements for delivery if local general contractors, mason contractors and/or material suppliers are willing to donate materials. Construction Equipment Enjoys Record '78 Sales
Construction equipment distributors and manufacturers throughout the U.S. reported record sales in 1978, and generally forecast continued gains next year, although the percentage of increases probably won't be as large.
Industry response to Associated Equipment Distributors' recent year-end business conditions survey showed 1978 new equipment sales increases averaged about 20% over the previous year.
St. Louis Institute Aids Architecture Students
The Masonry Institute of St. Louis recently presented a $1,000 check for the Havey-Martini-O'Neal Scholarship Fund to the St. Louis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. This marks the sixth year that the Masonry Institute has participated in the ALA scholarship program. The financial assistance program is named for three St. Louis bricklayer union leaders instrumental in the formation of the Masonry Institute.
