Jurisdictional Disputes

Board Has New Chairman

Dale Witcraft has been named chairman of the Impartial Jurisdictional Disputes Board under the plan for the settlement of jurisdictional disputes in the construction industry. He fills the vacancy created when Fred Driscoll failed to secure reelection to this post in January.

Witcraft, a native Ohioan and a graduate of Ohio University, has served as director of labor relations for the Associated General Contractors of America in Washington, D.C. for the past 13 years.

Plans Take Shape for
Interbuild in Britain

World marketing opportunities are attracting American construction companies, architects, engineers, trade associations and state economic development offices to Interbuild, Britain's International Building & Construction Exhibition to be held in Birmingham, England, December 2-8, 1979.

A number of American exhibitors have already signed up for space at Interbuild, which this year takes over the entire one-million square feet of Britain's National Exhibition Centre with one of the most comprehensive collections of building and construction products, machinery and other materials ever assembled in the English-speaking world.

Special travel packages at reduced rates are being arranged for American business and professional groups as well as individuals to attend Interbuild. An American Construction Day will be held in cooperation with the Royal Institute of British Architects as part of a week-long program of technical meetings.

Inquiries about the special tour packages and other arrangements may be made by writing to Interbuild, Suite 1002, 1625 Eye St., N.W., Washington, DC 20006. (202) 872-0810. Call toll-free: (800) 424-8085.

Seminars Rate High with
Architects, Engineers

Nearly 700 architects and engineers in the Chicago metropolitan area had the opportunity to learn of the "Advantages and Challenges of Masonry Design" at three seminars sponsored by the Metropolitan Chicago Masonry Council.

Originally scheduled for one session, initial registration exceeded capacity and a second seminar was arranged. When it was apparent that two seminars could not accommodate the registrations, a third was scheduled.

Speakers included Hugh C. MacDonald, Brick Institute of America/Region 5, who spoke on "Fire Resistance and Rates and Design Details;" Colin Munro, executive director of the Council, who discussed "Masonry Detailing and Problems and Solutions," and Charles W. Ostrander, P.E., staff engineer of the Chicago Masonry Institute, whose subject was "Energy Conservation with Masonry."
