LOUIS SULLIVAN AWARD

A cum laude graduate of Harvard in 1938, Barnes took a master of architecture degree at the same school in 1942. Seven years later he established his own architectural firm. The firm has designed academic and institutional buildings, housing projects, office buildings and commercial structures.

Barnes has been a critic and lecturer at Pratt Institute and at Yale University. He has won many awards, including the A. W. Brunner Award in 1959 from the National Chicago Horticultural Society, Botanic Garden Administration and Visitor Center, Institute of Arts and Letters, and several Honor Awards from AIA.

The Sullivan Award is open to all practicing architects in Canada and the U.S., and is based on the submission of at least three projects. It recognizes design excellence over a long period of time and is not based on the design of a single building or complex.
