First Construction Expo Set for Latin America
The premiere presentation of the Latin American Building & Construction Expo will be held October 27-30, 1981 in Panama's new Atlapa Convention Center.
The Expo is sponsored by the Panama Contractors Association and will concurrently host a meeting of the Interamerican Federation of the Construction Industry. Some 20 countries are expected to be represented at the meeting.
Call for Papers at '82 Building Symposium
A call for papers has been issued for the 3rd Joint Symposium on the Performance Concept in Building co-sponsored by the American Society for Testing & Materials, the International Council for Research Studies & Documentation, and the International Union of Testing & Research Laboratories for Materials and Structures.
The symposium is scheduled for March 29-April 2, 1982 at the Laboratorio Nacional de Engenharia Civil in Lisbon, Portugal. The program is a sequel to the two previous joint ASTM/CIB/RILEM symposia on the Performance Concept in Building held in 1972 in Philadelphia and the Evaluation of the Performance of External Surfaces of Buildings in 1977 in Finland.

Hanson New Structural Engineer at CMI
George Hanson, P. E., has been appointed structural engineer for the Colorado Masonry Institute, Denver. A registered professional engineer in 13 states, Hanson previously was a partner in Sallada-Hanson, a Denver consulting engineering firm, and was most recently with Flickinger Associates Ltd., architects.
He has been active in the development of design and construction of the reinforced masonry bearing wall system for highrise buildings.
Building Seismic Safety Council to Meet
The second annual meeting of the Building Seismic Safety Council will be held November 6-7, 1980 in Memphis, Tenn., at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
The council is an independent, voluntary body established to enhance public safety by providing a national forum to foster improved seismic safety provisions.
