MI of Atlanta Sponsors

Restoration Seminar

The Masonry Institute of Atlanta, in conjunction with the Atlanta Area Promotion Fund, sponsored a one-day seminar on restoration in Columbus, Ga., April 24.

The seminar chairman was Dr. Frank B. Reeves, professor of architecture and director of the graduate program in architectural preservation at the University of Florida.

Other speakers included Garland Reynolds, FAIA, principal of the architectural firm of Reynolds & Partners, Decatur, Ga.; Rozier Dedwylder, AIA, Pound, Flowers & Dedwylder, Architects, Columbus; Herschel E. MC & MCA Elects Officers

Karen Drescher was elected president of the Minnesota Concrete & Masonry Contractors Association at the group's recent annual meeting. Other officers elected were Mike Frantz, vice president: Dan Trumble, secretary, and Jim Berg, treasurer.


Form Masonry Industry

Council in Kentucky

The creation of a Masonry Industry Council to promote masonry construction throughout Kentucky and sections of Indiana has been announced by Paul Clements, chairman of the Masonry Promotion Fund.

Membership in the Council includes suppliers and manufacturers of products and/or services related to the masonry construction industry. The sole purpose of the Council will be to promote and extend the use of masonry construction in the state of Kentucky and Floyd, Clark and Harrison counties in Indiana.


HJK&A Receives Top

Magazine Award

Washington, D.C.-The Washington-based communications firm of HJK&A has been presented Progressive Architecture's 1979 Annual Advertising Award for its production of a print ad on behalf of the International Masonry Institute.

The IMI ad, entitled "Tools of the Trade," was chosen from over 600 ads that appeared in Progressive Architecture in 1979. According to the judges, the four-color, full page ad was "one of the few in which a phrase ("Tools of the Trade") caught us. The bid for action is very simple. It was a unanimous choice."


Bonsal Acquires Sakrete

Operation in California

W. R. Bonsal Co., Lilesville, N.C., announced it has purchased a Sakrete manufacturing plant in the City of Industry, near Los Angeles, Calif. Work has already begun to expand and modernize the operation. According to Jack Deger (pictured at left), Bonsal western division manager, plans are to double production of Sakrete cement mixes with the installation of new equipment, which presently is underway. Shown with Deger is Jan Kerrebyn, executive vice president of the company.
