MICHIGAN "M AWARDS"

and the Masonry Institute-member mason contractors involved in their construction, all received cast-bronze "M Awards" at a January 24 banquet at the Northfield Hilton Hotel in Troy.

Mason contractors cited were J & J Mason Contractors, Inc., Lansing, and Navetta Mason Contractors, Brighton, for the Petoskey medical complex: Schiffer Mason Contracting, Holt, for the Foster Building: Kanfer Construction Co., Oak Park, for Monroe City Hall, and Hillyer Construction Corp., Birmingham, for the Troy Fire Station.

Jury members were Don R. Brown, AIA, of the Boston Architectural Center; Merle T. Westlake, AIA, Hugh Stubbins & Associates, Cambridge, Mass., and Douglas Cole Smith, AIA, Newtonville, Mass.

Brown, the jury chairman, announced the awards which were presented by Frank Soave, president of the Masonry Institute, and Evie Asken, AIA, president of the Michigan Society of Architects.

Featured speaker at the awards banquet was sculptress Mara Smith of Naperville, III., who is noted for her elaborate brick murals.
