Meet MCAA's New...
REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENTS
Mack H. Pettit
Vice President, Region B
Mack Pettit is president of Pettit Construction Co., Inc., one of the leading mason contracting firms in the South. Formed in 1959, the main office is in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with a division (Yacko Division) in Birmingham, Alabama, and a subsidiary company (Baker Masonry) in Charleston, South Carolina.
Before he and his three elder brothers formed Pettit Construction Co., Mack and his younger brother learned the trade as masons. Long active in industry affairs, Mack has served a previous term as MCAA regional vice president, and also as president of the Upper South Carolina Masonry Association, Carolina Council. He additionally has been a member of several committees of the North Carolina Masonry Association.
Socially, Mack has been president and a board member of the Three Pines Country Club and a member of the board of the Spartanburg Country Club, as well as being active in various other organizations.
Mack and his wife, Pat, are avid golfers and enjoy traveling. They were married in 1950 and have a daughter and three sons, two of whom are active in the company, and seven grandchildren.
Kenneth P. Thompson
Vice President, Region G
Kenneth P. Thompson is president of Kenneth P. Thompson Co., Inc., a construction enterprise he formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1959. Kenneth P. Thompson Co. specializes in masonry, tile, and marble construction of industrial, commercial and government projects. Prior to starting his own firm, Kenn worked for C. R. Bradley Masonry Contractor of Fort Worth, Texas, for 10 years, serving a bricklayers apprenticeship and as a masonry foreman of that firm.
Kenn helped organize the New Mexico Chapter of the MCAA and served as past president and New Mexico state chairman of MCAA of New Mexico. He has held offices and been active in the New Mexico Chapters of Associated Subcontractors of America and the Associated General Contractors of America. He is a trustee on the New Mexico Bricklayers Pension Trust and on the Labor-AGC Trust.
In community activities, Kenn is a member of the Moslah Shrine and the Elks Lodge. He is active in real estate development, farming and horse racing. Kenn and his wife, Nita, have one daughter, Renée, who is finishing her master's degree in speech pathology at the University of New Mexico. Kenn's hobbies include gardening and jogging.
Oscar F. Person
Vice President, Region H
Oscar Person is back in his familiar post of MCAA regional vice president, having served several terms in that capacity prior to 1982. He also currently serves as a trustee on the San Francisco Promotion Trust Fund, as co-chairman of the Masonry Industry Advancement Committee, and as a member of the Masonry Industry Political Education Committee.
In former positions, he is a past president of the Masonry Institute (San Francisco), the San Francisco Chapter of the California Conference of Mason Contractors Associations, the Masons, and Builders Association of San Francisco, and the Burlingame (Calif.) Rotary Club.
Oscar was born in Sweden and came to the United States in 1926. Subsequently, on a return visit to his native country, he was awarded The Order of the North Star by the King of Sweden.
Oscar started in the mason contracting business in 1936 with Person & Wik, a partnership that was later incorporated. In 1962 he bought out Wik and changed the firm's name to Person-Western, Inc. His company is presently working on the rehabilitation of the 28-story Pacific Bell Building in San Francisco. Oscar himself is continued on page 30
